Dividing Lines: Desegregation of California Public Schools

Interview w Dr. Anthony Orlando, November 18, 2021

USC Price School of Public Policy / Bedrosian Center on Governance interview.

What an honor that The USC Price School of Public Policy would take interest in The Kindness of Color! In this interview, Dr. Anthony Orlando’s questions focussed on the human impact of policy decisions and how those policy decisions created real life human challenges for our Mendez and Munemitsu families.

In the midst of racist segregation, collective acts of kindness, a supportive community and perseverance brought hope and eventual change for all. “No act too small” would encourage each of us to try to do what we can to help others in the midst of challenging times. With much of Dr. Orlando’s work focused on identifying problems and their potential solutions for policy and decision makers, it was so heart-warming to me that Dr. Orlando had a sincere desire to design policy with the American citizens and residents in mind, not just what might be political or convenient.

Dr. Orlando is a graduate of Wharton, London School of Economics with a PhD from University of Southern California in Public Policy. He is currently the Assistant Professor in the Finance, Real Estate, & Law Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
